At Dialect Imports, we seek out producers whose wines speak clearly of place, nature, and craft. While our roots are deeply connected to Europe, we are proud to introduce Helen Keplinger as our first domestic producer in the Florida market. Keplinger is a winemaker whose philosophy and precision align effortlessly with the values that define our portfolio.
Named Vinous Winemaker of the Year in 2023, Helen Keplinger is widely regarded as one of California’s most compelling artisanal winemakers. Her wines are small-batch, sustainably farmed, and deeply site-driven, offering balance, elegance, and a true sense of origin in every bottle.
A Winemaker Shaped by Curiosity and Place
Originally from Ohio, Helen’s path into wine began with a decisive pivot. Drawn equally to science, art, and nature, she moved to California in 1998 to pursue a Master’s in Enology at UC Davis. After graduating in 2002, she apprenticed under Heidi Barrett at Paradigm and Kathy Joseph at Fiddlehead, gaining hands-on experience at two of California’s most respected wineries.
In 2004, Helen relocated to Priorat, Spain, where she spent several years making wine at Cellers Melis. Immersed in Catalan culture and old-vine Garnacha, she developed a lasting appreciation for terroir and the subtle differences that distinguish one site from another. That experience remains foundational to her work today and explains her enduring focus on Grenache, Rhone varietals and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oakville AVA, all from single-vineyard sites in Northern California and the Central Coast.

Vineyard-Driven, Small-Batch, and Intentional
Helen Keplinger works from the belief that great wine is only possible from great vineyards. She is deeply involved in sourcing and farming exceptional sites across Napa Valley and the Sierra Foothills, focusing on low yields, thoughtful farming, and small, individual lots.
Though based in Napa, Helen’s personal label continues to center on Grenache and Syrah, a refreshing and distinctive choice that reflects both her Priorat roots and her commitment to authenticity over convention.
Vinous Winemaker of the Year 2023
Helen’s work across multiple projects has earned widespread critical recognition. In naming her Vinous Winemaker of the Year in 2023, Vinous founder Antonio Galloni highlighted the exceptional quality and consistency of her wines:
“The wines were so breathtaking I tasted them again in my office a few weeks later just to be sure. As often happens with great wines when they are taken out of physical context, a more clinical setting actually allows them to shine even more brightly. My initial impressions were confirmed, and then some.”
— Antonio Galloni, Vinous
This recognition underscores Helen’s rare ability to translate vineyard character and vintage nuance across different sites and collaborations. Each wine is opulent, expressive, and unmistakably her own.
