Tibaldi: A Family Legacy Rooted in Roero

December 20, 2024

At Dialect Imports, we pride ourselves on bringing exceptional Italian wines to discerning and wanderlust palates, and Tibaldi is a true gem in our portfolio. Nestled in the heart of Roero, Tibaldi embodies the perfect harmony of tradition, innovation, and sustainability that defines the very best of Italian winemaking.

Sisterhood Passion for Vines and Grapes, Inherited

Founded in 2014 by sisters Monica and Daniela Tibaldi, the winery carries forward a family legacy steeped in the traditions of Roero. The estate spans 19 acres across three distinct hills—Mormore, Bricco della Passere, and Coste Anforiano—each offering unique terrain and exposures, allowing for a diverse expression of their wines. The vineyards, situated at approximately 820 feet above sea level, boast vines with an average age of 30 years, deeply rooted in the rugged ‘Rocche’ of Roero.

Much has changed since the time of the original owner, great-grandfather Stefano, whose primary goal was to produce a large harvest to sell or make wine for the family. Today, Monica and Daniela, the fourth-generation Tibaldi sisters, bring a modern vision to the family vineyard while honoring timeless traditions. In 2014, they launched their own brand, becoming the faces of the winery. They credit their father, also named Stefano, and their grandfather, Tunin, for instilling the skills and values that have elevated the vineyard to a world-class level of excellence. The sisters now oversee every aspect of winemaking—from tending the vines and crafting the wines to managing sales and hosting wine tasting events—all while infusing their sisterly spirit into the brand, reflected in their wine labels.

A Blend of Tradition and Eco-Friendly, Sustainable Winemaking Practices

From the start, Monica and Daniela adopted organic wine farming practices to preserve the balance of Roero’s delicate ecosystem. Certified Organic through Valoritalia, Tibaldi has maintained these standards for four years. Their organic methods extend beyond the vineyard into their orchards, where they farm with the same eco-conscious philosophy. Birdhouses dot the vineyards, encouraging wildlife and promoting biodiversity, further safeguarding the surrounding environment.

This dedication to sustainability enhances the quality and authenticity of their wines, reflecting the true essence of Roero. By embracing eco-friendly practices and reducing chemical use, Tibaldi demonstrates how winemaking can honor both tradition and the land.

The Tibaldi Wines

“Every vintage is unique and unrepeatable: in a person’s life, the number of vintages is limited, and for this reason, every good one becomes a great emotion.”

White Wines:

  • Langhe Favorita DOC & Roero Arneis DOCG: Grapes from vineyards in Pocapaglia and Santa Vittoria d’Alba are hand-picked, fermented, and then blended into a single wine that matures several months sur lie.
  • Bricco delle Passere Roero Arneis Riserva DOCG: The best single-vineyard grapes, located in the municipality of Pocapaglia in the MGA Bricco della Passere, are hand-picked and undergo a short, cold maceration. The wine matures sur lie for roughly 10 months to increase its structure and longevity, completing its aging in the bottle for at least 8 months.
  • RitaSte Pas Dose Roero Arneis DOCG: Arneis grapes are harvested early in order to preserve the right acidity, gently pressed and then vinified in stainless steel tanks. After re-fermentation in the bottle, the wine remains at least five years on the lees with a long period of rummage, which is carried out by hand.

Red Wines:

  • Barbera d’Alba DOC: Grapes from two vineyards in the commune of Santa Vittoria d’Alba, known for loamy-clayey soil, are hand-picked and fermented in contact with the skins. Malolactic fermentation begins, and the wine stays sur lie to enrich the structure and fullness of the palate.
  • Langhe Nebbiolo DOC: Single-vineyard grapes located in the municipality of Pocapaglia are hand-picked, traditionally vinified in the winery, and fermented in contact with the skins for about 15-20 days. The wine matures sur lie to achieve greater complexity.

Tibaldi’s wines are the embodiment of Roero’s unique terroir combined with sustainable and meticulous winemaking practices. Their distinctive characteristics—elegance, complexity, and authenticity—make them perfect for any wine lover or business owner looking to offer something special. Whether you’re drawn to the vibrant freshness of the white wines or the structured elegance of the reds, Tibaldi’s range truly offers something for every palate.
